Math Tutoring at the Elementary Level
Sometimes it just doesn’t click. Some kids cannot grasp the idea that the numeral four stands for four things or four pieces of something. They can’t seem to make the connection. It’s time to get a private tutor. Information can be found here.
What is a Four?
When kids are little, parents usually teach them to count. The child repeats the names of the numbers.
Parents instinctively hold up one finger when they say one and two fingers when they say two. Most kids get the idea that the number three stands for three fingers. But some kids don’t see the link. See here for information about What Exactly Does an Elementary School Tutor Do.
This is one reason why math tutoring might be needed at the elementary level. Teachers know that math as a concept is imaginary. The child cannot go to the kitchen and bring back a four.
Assigning words to quantities is a problem that a private elementary tutor can tackle one-on-one. It’s hard for the regular classroom teacher to take the time to make sure each child understands this basic math concept.
It’s a problem that needs to be addressed, but it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Using concrete objects to link numbers to quantities is just the kind of thing a private tutor would do.
